The OKC Date NightChallenge
The OKC Date Night Challenge: 7 Dates Every Couple Should Try
Ready for a little challenge?
We're challenging Oklahoma City couples to try seven different kinds of dates—not seven expensive nights out, and not seven picture-perfect Instagram dates. Just seven opportunities to get out of your routine and spend intentional time together.
Think you can complete all seven? Let's go.
DATE #1: The Romantic Date
Dress up. Make reservations. Open the door for each other. Take your time. This is the date where you remember that romance doesn't disappear when you've been together for a long time—you just have to make room for it.
DATE #2: The Silly Date
Do something that makes absolutely no sense as a “serious” date. Go bowling. Play arcade games. Get ice cream and sit in the car. Have a ridiculous photo contest. The goal is simple: laugh.
DATE #3: The Creative Date
Take a class, visit an art museum, paint something, make pottery, build something or try a craft you've never attempted. You don't need to be artistic. You just need to be willing to make something badly together.
DATE #4: The Foodie Date
Choose a restaurant you've never tried. Or make a progressive dinner. Or pick one ingredient and see how many ways you can find it around town. Make the food part of the adventure.
DATE #5: The Adventure Date
Get outside your comfort zone. Try a new trail. Explore somewhere you've never been. Take a spontaneous road trip. Try an activity that makes one of you say, “I've never done that before.”
DATE #6: The Get-to-Know-You-Again Date
This one may be the most important.
Go somewhere quiet enough to talk. Ask questions you haven't asked in years—or questions you've never thought to ask.
What are you looking forward to? What would you do if money wasn't an issue? What is something you've always wanted us to do together?Don't solve anything. Don't multitask. Just listen.
DATE #7: The Surprise Date
One person plans everything. The other person knows only what time to be ready and what to wear.
No hints. No “what are we doing?” No checking the itinerary.
Just trust the person planning it and enjoy the surprise.
Make It a Challenge
Keep track of your seven dates. Take a photo from each one. Write down your favorite moment. At the end, choose your favorite date and recreate it. And if you finish all seven? Tag Reserved For Two. We want to see what you did!
Because dating your spouse or partner shouldn't stop just because you've been together for a while. John planned an evening not to long ago, we went to see Twister (the original) and Twisters (the new one) at the drive-in. We have so much fun. And we actually had a thunderstorm during the movies! It was epic. I am so glad we made the 2 hour drive, it was so worth it!
Life gets busy. Work gets busy. Families get busy. Sometimes the calendar fills up before you realize you've gone weeks without having a real date.
So make one.
Then make another.
Seven dates later, you might just have a whole new collection of memories.
Seven dates. Seven memories. One very good reason to keep choosing each other.
